Picking Colors for Your Braces

Getting braces is a rite of passage for many young people, a means of achieving the beautiful smile they have always wanted. While braces do give you that picture-perfect smile; they can also be used as an excellent way to showcase the wearer’s personality.

With so many band colors to choose from, the question for most becomes “How can I possibly choose between all of the colors that I want?” That is why Dillehay Orthodontics is here to offer a few ideas on how to choose the band colors that work best for you!

Bands to Suit YOU

Bands

Did you know that certain colors pair well with your based on the color of your skin, hair or eyes? If you have a darker skin tone, you might find that shades of gold, darker blues, bright blues such as turquoise, oranges, greens, violets or pinks might work well for you. On the other hand, if you have a lighter skin tone, you may want to try lighter shades of blue, bronze, some subtle shades of red or pink. Additionally, darker shades of purple or blue might be perfect for you as well.

It is important to keep in mind when choosing your band colors that darker colors can potentially make your teeth appear to be whiter, while lighter colors can have the opposite effect.

Whether you have blue eyes, brown or green, or any shade in between, there are shades of bands that can pair well with your eye color as well. Ask us if you have any questions!

Fashion-Friendly

If you have a keen eye for fashion, it may be important to you that your bands help complete your wardrobe, rather than clashing with it.

If you typically like to wear bright colors, you will likely want to select bright colors for your bands. However, if you typically wear more subdued colors, you will want to do the same with your bands as well.

Choosing bands to match your fashion forward wardrobe can turn your braces into the perfect accessory!

Make it Mean Something

The time you spend wearing braces is temporary, so when you reach this season of your life, you may want to choose band colors that mean something to you. You can do this in a number of different ways.

One factor you may want to consider is the time of year. Spring time may have you wanting to use light, pastel shades of color, whereas, during the winter, you may want to use various shades of blue and white. In the Summer, you may enjoy using brightly colored bands. For example, you may want to use the colors like that of a beach ball. But if you get your braces in the fall, the autumn leaves may inspire you to use shades of orange and brown.

Your braces can give you a fun new way to celebrate holidays as well.
  • During the Easter season, you may want to choose light colors such as blue, pink and yellow like you would see on Easter eggs.
  • Red and green bands can help you share holiday cheer during the month of December.
  • Halloween offers lots of possibilities. You could choose orange and black colored bands or colors that match your costume for the year. Another fun Halloween option is choosing bands that glow in the dark!
  • Celebrate the season of love by wearing shades of red and pink during February for Valentine’s Day.

Another way to make your band colors mean something more is by showing your patriotism. You can do this by choosing red, white and blue bands to match the American flag. This would be a great combination to choose in July or to wear year-round.

You can also use your braces to show your school spirit or pledge your support to your favorite sports team. Wearing your team’s colors on your braces is like wearing team clothing every day! Whether you’re a fan of the Jayhawks, Wildcats, Shockers, or even the Chiefs, the possibilities are endless to show your pride.
